Web 2.0- Facebook

. Pros

It’s free and it’s easy to use as it’s simple to navigate around the site. It’s also easy to set up your account as you only need to fill out some personal details and give and email.
Another benefit of this web 2.0 is that you can communicate with friends and families that live far away or are on allows you to see what is happening in distant places as you can view peoples status updates and pictures even if they’re in a different country.
It can be safe as children and adults can change their privacy settings and choose who they want to view their personal profile and updates.
You can share thoughts, causes and ideas. Also it allows your children to interact with kids with similar interests across the globe. They can join groups and support fan pages and talk to other children with the same interests.
It can be educational in the sense that teens can use it to discuss school work

Cons

Although there are privacy settings in place for you to choose, if you do not know how to use them then everyone will be able to access your information. This includes hackers who could misuse your personal information.
It can be time consuming if you get addicted and are playing on it all the time.
It can be dangerous for children as it could contain unsuitable content. Also people can set up fake accounts which children could believe to be their friends which could put them on danger.
It can also be used for cyber bullying.
It can be addictive as it has games as well as the social aspects such as Candy Crush.
It can make people anti-social as they can replace face to face learning with it.

TED Talks- My inspirational video

This video is inspirational to me because it was unexpected what she was going to say at the end. I also thought that it was inspirational how someone that had suffered from such a horrible disease was able to look at it from such a good point of view. It’s amazing what she has gained from it and how well she has recovered which to me is truly inspirational. Here are the things that she said she gained from it:
Bring her family together
Made her feel loved and appreciated
Reconnect with old friends.
Helped her see what was most important in your life
Redefine her faith and spirituality
It gave her a new understanding and trust in your body
It helped expand her vocabulary
Meet new people
Have a healthier life style
8 week vacations of doing nothing
Eat countless gourmet meals
Be given flowers
Be complimented
Have a lifetime supply of good drugs
Be challenged, inspired and motivated
Gave her life a new meaning

However the line I found most inspiring is “Consider that although something may be unexpected and unwanted it may be ultimately a gift”. This is because it could it could relate to anything in the world and anyone could relate to it. Also it shows that almost anyone can have a great life and survive one of these most horrible illnesses.

Glogster.com

This is a website used to make glogs. It can also be downloaded as an app. I originally used the app as i thought it would be the easier option as to make an account all you have to do is give your email address, a username and a password of your choice. Whereas the website requires you to fill out more personal information before you can use the website. Their also more steps to it as shown below.

Although they are different at the beginning, they both work the same and have the same tools when you are actually making a glog such as adding text, videos and pictures.

This would be useful in education because pupils of all ages could use it as it simple plus it is especially made for schools as it gives you the option to pick what school you go to so you can see glogs that other people from your school have made using glogapedia.   Another reason i think that it could be useful is because pupils could use it for projects, group work or even just planning and writting down ideas for essay as you can put all your ideas in one place such as the videos, pictures and themes your going to use.

Wikis

Today i was shown how to make a wiki in which we looked at the education of the future. This was quite interesting as we had an insite into what future generations may experience in schools. One problem we found using this site was that more than one person could not edit the site at the same time and if you tried to you would not be able to save your work and end up losing it all. Luckily we had saved our work in a work document so it wasn;t a huge loss for us. This is a picture of the site we used:

Home vs Halls

In our lessons with Mandy we were given the opportunity to make a movie with the ipad. My group enjoyed this as it was different to most lessons and it was an easy way to learn how to use this technology.

Evaluating an animation website

During class we were were given a task in groups to evaluate the usefulness of the website digitalfilms.com by creating an animation, which can be found here: Our Movie!
We were asked to consider the age, range and suitability of the website, as well as other factors such as whether it is easy to navigate.

We have come to the conclusion that the target age group of the website would be older primary school as the animations are colourful, however the website can be difficult to navigate and we would therefore suggest that children should be supervised while using it in order to get the most out of the website. The website was also very basic in the range of different scenes you could choose from or the characters you could create and the guidence given is easy to follow, however it can take a while to get used to. In order to create a movie you do need to register onto the website, which is completely free to use. There were some features of multimedia, which were pictures, animation, text and music, but you could only use the features already provided on the website, rather than being able to upload your own images or music.

The members of our group included Shannon Stevens, Rita Callaca and Jo-Beth Vearncombe

Selecting a reliable website for a job

For our task we had to find a website and check whether it is autentic. The website i looked at with my group was origami-club.com. To check if this was authentic we typed it in into google using "site:" to show us what other websites it was linked with. This showed us that it was linked to all origami related websites. We also searched the website to found who the owner of the website was, who turned out to be and author called Fumiaki Shingu who writes origami books which we found you could by on amazon. We also looked him up and found out he had graduated in design school so this was clearly and interest of his which made us believe the site was safe to use.

We chose this website because we were interested making origami. One memeber of our group had already had some experience as did i. We thought this would be a fun thing to learn to do using websites. This websites was very attractive as it was very colourful and pictures which also made it suitable for children as well adults. It was very easy to use as it had toolbars and buttons that took you to different subheading so that you could find exactly what you wanted to make.
